Digital Government Development, Local Governments’ Attention Distribution and Enterprise Total Factor Productivity: Evidence from China

Building digital government is an important means for the to improve public service ability and optimize business environment, which directly affects production operation activities of micro-enterprises. Based on panel data listed enterprises municipal portal website performance in China, this paper empirically investigates impact development enterprise total factor productivity (TFP) moderating effect local government’s attention distribution. The research results showed that significantly improved TFP, conclusion remained unchanged after a series robustness tests using instrumental variables, one-stage lag explained debiased machine learning models. We also found greater pressure faced by governments longer chief officials’ tenure, more paid building government, obvious role promoting TFP. Heterogeneity test information disclosure, online service, participation all had positive while user experience no it. Digital TFP central western regions, non-SOEs, technology-intensive enterprises.
